The Baton Rouge Rugby Football Club suffered a disappointing loss last Saturday as it dropped an 18 - 14 decision to the Battleship Rugby Football Club in Mobile, Alabama. The match started off very much in Baton Rouge's favor as they were in possession of the ball and on the attack for the majority of the first 40 minutes. However, Baton Rouge scored only two trys for all their efforts, squandering several good scoring opportunities, and came away with a 14 - 0 halftime lead. The momentum of the match began to shift toward Battleship as the second half wore on and as the home team's physical size and depth became a factor on a hot afternoon. They pulled within 14 - 12 with 15 minutes left and took the lead for good at 15 - 14 on a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining. They added another penalty kick late to make the final score 18 - 14.
Baton Rouge's record is 2 wins against 1 loss for the year. The club will next be in action November 13th and 14th at the 26th Annual Battleship Rugby Tournament in Mobile. Approximately 40 teams from all over the United States will be at the tournament.
