Baton Rouge (A,B) vs. HARC(A,B)
Date: December 06,  2003
Venue: Westland YMCA Houston, TX

Sirs:

The Baton Rouge Rugby Club traveled to Houston this past weekend to play two matches against the Houston Area Rugby Club (HARC).  It was a beautiful late autumn day with blue skies and temperatures in the low 50's with a steady breeze.  HARC dominated proceedings early, pressuring Baton Rouge into several mistakes in execution which led to HARC points.  Baton Rouge finally got untracked and responded with a converted try and a penalty kick and trailed 26 - 10 at the half.  The second half saw Baton Rouge claw their way back into the match with forward pressure resulting in a converted try that closed the margin to 26 -17 with 25 minutes remaining.  However, HARC's size and speed eventually told and Baton Rouge gave up three late scores to put the final score for the 'A' side match at 47 - 17.

Baton Rouge fared better in the 'B' side match, scrapping their way to a 22 - 20 win in a match characterized by handling errors and scrums.

The loss puts Baton Rouge's 'A' side season record at 6 wins with 2 defeats.  The 'B' side  has 3 wins with no defeats.  HARC plays in the Texas Rugby Union's Division I, so the loss does not count against Baton Rouge's league record, which still stands at 1 win with no defeats.  Baton Rouge will face undefeated Division II rival Shreveport for two matches this Saturday, December 13.  The match will take place at BREC's Highland Road Park.  Kickoff is at 2:00 pm.  The public is invited.
